Finally, a king was anointed to the Israel. Samuel became old too. He had served the Israel from youth to old (vers 2). Before he stepped down as the leadership role, he asked the people if he had cheated any one and the Lord. The answer was no. This is what we should learn as a being a leader. Samuel faithfully and patiently served the Israel, not for one year, ten years, but his whole life. He loved the Lord with all his heart and strength, and he trusted the Lord, because He is indeed faithful. That's where he got the power from.
At the end of that night in this chapter, Samuel confronted the Israel because they had sinned against God when they asked for a king. The Israel was derived. Israel finally realize that they were wrong when they saw the thunder and rain.
Now they realized that had sinned against the Lord, and they had done evil things in God's eyes, they cried "Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king!!!" (vers 19)
"You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart....But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you" (vers 20)
Yes, we have done evil things, but I pray that, starting from now, be sure I fear Him and love Him and serve Him faithfully, for He is the one brought me out of darkness. As a leader, pray hard and super hard for the people. "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you.".
Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and what He had given will be swept away.
