Some might say "I am nothing special, how can I serve the Lord", or other might say "I can serve the Lord because I am this and that". As we look at the first king of Israel, Saul, indeed he was one odd handsome tall young man amount all people (1 Samuel 9:1, 1 Samuel 10:23), but was it the reason why he deserved to be the king? The bible in verse 1 says, it is NOT because of anything, but because the Lord has anointed Saul to be the king.
This reminds me of this verse:
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8)
If we think that we can serve the Lord, or cannot serve the Lord because of your ability, both maternity is a sign of pride. Who are we to say that we can be saved by our own doing!? Doesn't the bible also say that "there is no one righteous, not even one" (Romain 3:10)!?
Now we know we are not saved by work, then how are we going to manage the resources that God has given us? Knowing that each person are created by God with a special purpose because of Love. If we look at Saul's story, God gave Saul the out standing appearance so that the people can easier to accept the fact that He will be the king. Really, it is not because of his appearance, appearance is only a tool from God because of His love to His people. God knows us to well. And for us, we also have to understand why God has created us to such a special way. Yes, we are special, and we are special not because who we are, but because who He is. Seek His kingdom first, and then you will be found. Just like the parable of Minas (Luke 19), it is not about how much you have or don't have, it is about how faithful you are. God is fair.
"But some worthless fellows said, "How can this man save us?" And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace." (Vers 27)
One last thing in this chapter. Be faithful to God does not mean you will not be criticize and despised. This could be a quiz for you and I to see if you really receive the NEW heart (vers 9) from the Lord, and will truly hide our peace.
God, teach me to be faithful to what you have plainly given me. Give me wisdom and love and peace to handle life, so that people can see you through my life you have given me.
