Ephesians 3:7-8

I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.

(v7, NIV)

As Paul mentioned earlier, we are saved by grace. It is also according to this gift of grace that he is made a minister of this gospel. So, he is made a minister of the good news by the grace that saves him. Of course, all these things come from God. Specifically, it is by the working of his power. It is through God's power that this can happen and is made to happen.

This power that is able to do this is indeed powerful. What else could turn Paul in the complete opposite of where he was going? Paul was headed for destruction as he was on the path of salvation by works. Moreover, he was first and foremost persecutor of the Christians. It is only by the power of God that could turn a man like Paul into an apostle and bondservant of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

(v8, NIV)

Paul is not prideful or boastful. He does talk about boasting in other letters, but not boasting in himself. Here we see how he considers him the least of all the saint. He does not elevate himself to anything but the least of all. However, even though he was the least, grace was given to him to preach to the Gentiles. Paul knows his calling and his specific calling is to preach to the Gentiles. He goes and tells them about the unsearchable riches of Christ. If the riches of Christ are unsearchable, why should we even bother with it? His riches are so great and so vast that they are unsearchable! You look to find and you may find some, but you won't find all of it. This gift that we receive and are able to be brought near to God is so rich it is unsearchable. How great is our God and how awesome he is to gift us with this gift?
