Ephesians 1:18-20

having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might,

(v18-19, ESV)

Paul prays for wisdom and revelation of knowledge of God for them. What this means is the enlightenment of the eyes of their hearts. Paul begins to describe the implications of his prayer for them. What happens when the eyes of your heart is enlightened? There are three things that we know or come to know. That we may know what is the hope to which he has called us. He has called us to a hope that is in our eternal dwelling place that we may be saved from our sins and saved from eternal separation from God.

The second thing that we may know is the riches of our inheritance. We may know that we have a hope or that there even is a hope. However, we may not know how valuable it is. We may not understand how great its riches are. In fact, I'll bet that we all are in a process of continually learning how valuable it is. We don't ever fully grasp the worth of its riches.

The third thing that we may know is the greatness of his power towards us. We may know what the hope is, and we may even begin to grasp how valuable the inheritance we receive is. However, to know his power towards us encompasses so much more. The value of our inheritance does not encompass all of God's power towards us. It's actually quite different.

that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

What is this power towards us? It is the same that he worked in Christ when he was raised from the dead. The same power that was able to bring Jesus from death to life is this power towards us. How awesome is his power. Does anyone on the face of this earth have the power to raise someone from the dead? Nobody can even come close to the power of God. Our God is an awesome God.
