The fact that we are saved by grace is not an excuse to go on sinning. He created us and he saves us. We are his workmanship and we are created for good works. This is actually applied to being "in Christ Jesus", which may point to good works being done in Christ Jesus.
This also isn't something God just made up recently. It's not as if we're saved by grace, then God thought up that we should do good works. Instead, God had already prepared this beforehand. He prepared long time ago that we should do good works and live in that manner.
