Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers with me,
To the churches in Galatia:
(v1-2, NIV)
Paul is not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ. Paul is sure to make this distinction. When looking ahead to some of what Paul talks about in Galatians, this makes sense. Paul warns those at the church in Galatia to not follow another gospel. The one true gospel which Paul preaches is through Jesus Christ. However, any other gospel is through men. All other gospels pale in comparison. Do any of the other gospels follow someone who was raised from the dead? Jesus died and rose again. That's who I want to follow, the conqueror of death.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
(v3, NIV)
Paul sends grace and peace to them from God. It makes sense for him to be able to do this if he is acting by or through Jesus. He is in a sense a proxy for God to send things to others.
who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
(v4-5, NIV)
Jesus' sacrifice for us on the cross was for us. It rescued us from the present evil age. The saving power of the cross wasn't limited to a small range. If a grenade blows up, it affects a small radius around it. If someone were to fart, only those within a certain distance from him or her would be affected. However, Jesus' death and rescuing power is not limited to distance. His saving power is not even limited to time. It's not like only those who were standing there that day were saved. Even those like you and me who were not born yet can be saved by this saving power. Crazy awesome.
