To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
(v20, NIV)
Glory be to our God. He deserves all the glory, and we shall not steal any glory for ourselves. We live our lives in humble submission to the one to whom all praise is due.
With reference to what Paul is talking about, God should be given all the glory. The believers at the church in Philippi have sent Epaphroditus to Paul with their offering to him. Paul does not need this gift, but knows the secret of being content in every situation. So whether he has much or has little, he is content. However, he is thankful and glad for their gift to him. Because of it, he is amply supplied. In addition, he is thankful for the benefit they will receive for their obedience to God in their giving to Paul. They will benefit for this act of kindness they have showed to Paul. Regardless of the gifts Paul has received and regardless of the benefit the believers at Philippi receives or will receive, God gets the glory. We rejoice and give God the glory for his working in all these situations.
