the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel

We don't really need to go any further or wonder about where or how this faith and love is brought about since Paul explains it here. The faith and love comes from the hope they have in heaven which comes from the gospel. It is from the hearing and acceptance of the gospel that a hope of heaven is produced, which then produces faith and love. With this in mind, we can properly get to the heart of the issue. If you or a friend of yours is struggling in faith or love, we can see where faith and love comes from. So instead of trying to fix how your faith or love issue, deal with the hope you should have in heaven which comes from hearing the gospel. What I'm trying to say is getting to the root cause of an issue instead of the symptoms. If water is dripping from your ceiling, the floor or whatever is underneath the leak will start to get wet. To solve the problem, you can place a bin or container under the leak to catch the leaking water and prevent it from getting other things wet. However, the ceiling will continue to leak until seal or fix where the leak is coming from. Perhaps this means repairing a hole in the roof or mending a few leaky pipes.
