Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

(v23, NIV)

Not only do all sin, but all fall short of the glory of God. There is a level or a measure that we all compare with. This measure is not each other. Most people in this day and age know how to measure against each other all too well. We all rationalize and justify our own actions comparing ourselves with others. Somehow, the majority thinks they themselves are above the curve. Clearly, this is not the case because the very nature of an average is contradicted if more than fifty percent of the people are above average. The fact of the matter is that we all sin. We all fall short of God and his standard. It doesn't matter if we compare to each other; the average of all humans is not the measure that matters. Instead, the glory of God is what matters, and we all fall short of it. If you're having trouble with this, read Romans 1-3 again. Paul has gone into great detail about how we sin and don't choose God. Still aren't convinced? Just look around you at the sin is this world. Look at the news and see all the kinds of atrocities that are being committed by humans. Don't stop there and excuse yourself, look at yourself and try if you can to prove that you have never broken a single commandment of God's law, or the government's laws. Still not convinced? Truthfully ask your own conscience to see whether you are in fact guilty from your conscience's point of view. Even if you still don't believe this very fact and suppress the truth, it is God who will judge in the end and we can all answer to him. All have sinned and we all fall short of his glory.
