Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
(v24, NIV)
What happens when you exchange the glory of God for images? In the previous verses, Paul describes these people as becoming futile in their thinking. In addition, their hearts are darkened and they claim to be wise. Unfortunately, they are in fact foolish. They trade away God's glory, so God gives them over in the sinful desires of their heart. They want it, and so God gives it to them. It's sad and it makes me think of people who desperately ask God for something that is sinful. It could also be compared to a child asking their parents for something that would be "bad" for them. Sometimes they just give you what you want so that you'll learn when you fall. Unfortunately, sometimes we don't learn from our mistakes. Regardless, this trading away of glory is dark and not something you want to pursue. God may give you over to that which you desire; then what will you do?
