Romans 1:2-3

Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?

(v2-3, NIV)

God's judgment is based on truth. He does not judge based on a lie. NASB says that it rightly falls upon those who practice such things. In the last verse, Paul says that there is no excuse. Here in verse 2, focusing on God's judgment we see that it is true and right. You can't really object to a judgment like that. Well, you can, but you can't object to whether it rightly fell upon you; you deserved it.

In continuing to address these hypocrites, Paul points out some of their flaws. They judge others, but for some reason they feel as if God's judgment does not fall upon them. Somehow for some reason they feel exempt from the judgment of God. This is terribly wrong and it's sad how they are so blind that they cannot see their own sinfulness. However, let's not forget to place us in this picture. We are hypocrites who are blind to our own transgressions far too often. I continue to deceive myself and fall in many ways. So I pray and hope that my eyes be open to my own hypocrisy.
