Romans 1:16c

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

(v16, NIV)

Why is it first for the Jew, then for the Gentile? What part of God's power and gospel and salvation has anything to do with priority of Jews over Gentiles? From what I understand, salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ isn't any different if you're a Jew or a Gentile, does it?

Well, there are a few ways that Jews have priority in fact. They are God's chosen people. Back in the Old Testament we read about how God chose them as his own people. They were even given the Old Testament. Gentiles can't claim that they had Holy Scriptures like the Jews did. Gentiles weren't chosen by God as his peoples. In this way, Jews have priority over Gentiles. What's also interesting is that Jesus is a Jew. The savior who is the savior of the world is Jew and thus Jews and Gentiles alike must rely on a Jewish Messiah to be saved. This means that salvation is from the Jews. Christianity is the fulfillment of Judaism. So, there are a few ways in which Jews have a priority over Gentiles. But, we must all humble ourselves before the same God regardless of whether we are Jew or Gentile.
