Romans 1:16-17

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

(v16-17, NIV)

How is the righteousness from God revealed in the gospel? Well this is the gospel and it's about salvation. It is the power of God. So why do we need salvation? What do we need saving from? Here's a quote from James MacDonald from a sermon he gave:

"A lot of times when you ask people, "are you saved?"

they're like, "saved from what?"

Here's some wrong answers:

Saved from Hello

-Not primarily

Saved from sin

-indirectly

Saved from myself

eh... sorta

Saved from what?

Saved from God

That's what you're saved from, you're saved from God."

-James MacDonald

The fact of the matter is that we need saving from the wrath of God. God is angry with our unrighteousness. God is righteous, but we are not. Somehow, in his saving, he reveals his own righteousness. Well what happens in the gospel? The fact of the matter is that God demands righteousness, but we don't have it. Our only hope is that God would give to us the righteousness he demands from us. This is the righteousness of God that is revealed. That's not it; there's more to it. It's deeper and you don't just stop there.
