2 Timothy 1:9c

We are not saved because of what we do. No amount of good works can save you. Fortunately, God saved us, and we are not saved based upon anything we do. Why did he save us? It is because of grace. Reading Ephesians, we read that it is by grace that we have been saved. We clearly don't deserve to be saved, so it is by grace. It is also because of his purpose that he saved us. God certainly has plans and purpose, and part of that is fulfilled through saving us. Once again, it's not like we're deserving of being saved. However, by saving us, God is glorified. Sure, we benefit as well and for that we're forever grateful. But ultimately, he is God and we are not, and he deserves all praise.
