And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,-Colossians 1:21-22
We have just read how God has reconciled all things to himself through Jesus. Now, Paul focuses on the reader by addressing them directly "and you". Not only has God reconciled all things, but you have been reconciled too. To paint a bigger picture of the gravity of that, we (the reader and believer) are reminded of what we once were. We "once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds". I am reminded of Ephesians 2:
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.-Ephesians 2:1-3
We have been reconciled. We needed to be reconciled. Thank God that we were.
